If you are going to use used ones, clean the head surfaces and put two together with the faces touching. Hold them up to a light to see if you can see light between them increasing from the middle out. In other words the heads should be convex not concave or flat. Note: When installing, make sure your cam has .060 to .100" clearance from the top of the cam lobe to the lifter. Install using cam assembly lube.
