A simple check is to use a mirror and a flashlight to see if fuel is dripping onto the butterfly while the engine is idling. If it's dripping then there is a good chance it's bad. Another check is with the motor off, grab the throttle arm down where the butterfly shaft is and see if it moves back and forth. Again if it moves, the shaft is worn out and you should think about replacing it.
