A broken one can give bad reception and a coat hanger isn't much better. Now from what we understand the dealerships put these in, so not every car has them in the same location. On Bugs up to 1967 they are just bolted in from the trunk side. On Bugs 1968 and on you will need to undo the nut at the base of the antenna on the outside of the car. With that off, pull the antenna out from the trunk side. Before tightening the new one, pay attention to the fit. Most Buses up to 1965 had the double mount whereas 1966 and on had the single mount.
