This bushing wraps around the front shift rod. If your shifter is sloppy this is usually the reason. On a Bus before you start ripping apart the shifter, crawl under the front and find the shift rod, follow it to the shifter and find the hanger and bushing. Push the rod up and down, if it moves it's bad. On a Bug or a Type 3, take out the shifter and use a pair of pliers and pull up and down on the shift rod. If it moves it is bad. When installing the new one, use white grease on the rod where it rides in the bushing. On a Bus the rear bushings can only be replaced if the transmission has been removed.
