Most people don't realize that these are one of the most important parts in the motor.
Most people don't realize that these are one of the most important parts in the motor. When a rod is reconditioned the cap is separated, the bolts taken out and the cap mating surfaces ground. The rod is then put back together now having an oval hole. This hole is then machined round again. The problems we have seen are; the boring of the hole and bushing being bored crooked, throwing the rod side ways when the cylinder fires. The other problem is that, if one rod has been reconditioned once and the others five times then one rod is a lot longer than the others, affecting the compression ratio. You might have compression ratios of 7.7 in 3 cylinders and 9.1 in one cylinder; the result is an unbalanced engine and major detonation in one cylinder. The rods we carry are checked for straightness, and weighed to within 10 grams and matched for length to .005. All rods are sold in sets on an exchange basis.
